Counter Culture & Decadence

Mark Mackay had a couple of interesting comments re 2 shows on SBS TV 4 Jan. Both would be useful for reflection & discussion re our mission at St. Andrews Glenelg.

don't know if you saw counter coulter and decadence last night on SBS.

counter culture - on shopping - was interesting. a few references to shopping stores as "cathedrals" and shopping as a "religion". Interestingly enough the shopping stores (large ones - macys etc) are all struggling. So maybe there's an analogy to be drawn - the large traditional shop cf the traditional church.

decadence - on family and how there's a lost generations (all wired to ipods). perhaps simplistic - but in pursuit of materialism we work longer etc and have lost what is perhaps more important ... the family. next week - the topic is "god". might be one for you.
